||The Writer develops original, strategic content for ANA’s print and digital communications channels, including journal content, e-newsletters, web, and social media. Researches and reports on key issues that are important to ANA registered nurse members.
Responsibility includes planning and producing electronic newsletters. Supports ANA strategic goals to enhance member value and engagement, and optimize member communications. The Writer contributes to strategy development to help achieve greater reach, impact,
and revenue generation.
1)Content development. Conducts interviews, writes news, feature, profiles and interpretive articles. Contributes articles to regular ANA member publications, including American Nurse Today and ANA on the Frontline, e-newsletters, and others. Edits and revises
stories as directed.
2)Research. Analyzes and monitors social, economic and political issues in the public domain as to their effect on policies and programs of ANA and it’s constituent, state, and specialty affiliated organizations. Collaborates with appropriate association policy,
program, and executive staff and C/SNA staff to identify issues and trends of interest to nurses and other key nursing groups. Recommends strategies to communicate these issues through ANA periodicals.
3) Production. Develops and implements a plan to produce ANA e-newsletters, including curating content, writing, launch and analysis. Assists in production process for print and digital publications, including proofreading, identifying and gathering artwork,
4) Planning. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of objectives for the periodicals program, including developing story ideas and identifying broad themes and specific topics. Collaborates with marketing and membership staff to enhance
effectiveness (open rates/CTR) and explores ways to monetize content.
5) Assists with special projects, such as annual report, as assigned.
Education: BA or BS in journalism, communications, or related degree, with news/editorial emphasis. RN or health care background preferred.
Related Work Experience:
•Minimum three years recent experience in news and feature writing. Newspaper, journal or association news writing experience strongly desired. Experience with e-newsletter production process and social media.
•Excellent writing, editing, and interviewing skills, including news and feature writing, with a firm grasp of English grammar and punctuation rules
•Experience following style guides, including AP Style
•Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills
•Highly creative; good eye for photography and graphic selection
•Ability to analyze and interpret information
•Strong time management and organizational skills for meeting deadlines
•Skilled in optimizing content across channels to support goals and objectives
•Ability to work independently and collaboratively
•Proficiency in Microsoft Word
•Experience in e-newsletter production and analysis. Real Magnet experience preferred.
