Title Advocacy and Engagement Specialist

Description Supports advancement of ANA’s advocacy agenda through the implementation of grassroots, communication and political engagement strategies and through engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

DUTIES:

•Grassroots Engagement - Leads Implementation of comprehensive grassroots and grass tops plan, including development of issue specific microsites, social media networks/content, email action alerts, and in person and virtual lobby days to advance ANA’s advocacy agenda, educate and engage advocates and to encourage action on ANA priorities. Works closely with federal legislative and advocacy team members, PAC Director, and other relevant internal stakeholders on advocacy planning and messaging.
•Political Advocacy- Supports the ANA congressional and presidential endorsement processes, serving as contact for campaigns, facilitating communication with C/SNAS and vetting candidates for endorsement by ANA-PAC through evaluation based on endorsement criteria. Recommends the most effective means of providing strategic candidate support, whether through financial contributions or other activities. Consults with legislative and advocacy team members and ANA PAC Director, on the level of ANA-PAC financial support endorsed candidates receive up to the ANA-PAC board approved maximum. Serves as Liaison to the ANA-PAC Leadership Society.
•Legislative- Legislative/Issue Support
Remain informed of current significant trends, issues and strategies related to ANA policies, positions, and issues. Collaborate closely with and provide support to senior lobbying and advocacy and engagement team members related to issue portfolio assignments. Represent ANA in coalition meetings and at Congressional fundraisers (breakfasts, lunches, dinners, receptions, etc.) Maintain and submit timely and accurate lobbying activity and expenditure records according to ANA policy and in compliance with FEC (Federal Election Commission), IRS (Internal Revenue Service), U.S. Congress (Lobbying Disclosure) and DOL (Department of Labor) requirements; participate in ANA budget preparation and record-keeping as instructed.
•Communications Support – Assist in execution of a communications plan for the dissemination of information on Government Affairs activities to members and non-members reflecting, and available resources through online, social media, electronic and print communication tools. Represent the association in speaking engagements, with internal and external audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor’s Degree required.

Related Work Experience
Minimum of four to six years related experience with at least three (3) years spent engaging in legislative or grassroots advocacy or political engagement in a government or communications department; Experience in a state legislature, on Capitol Hill, or on political campaigns.

•Solid understanding of the legislative process.
•Ability to understand complex policies and issues and synthesize them clearly and compellingly for diverse audiences.
•Strong understanding of and experience with social media platforms and engagement.
•Discretion, tact, the ability to act independently with good judgment, and the ability to function as part of a team.

Additional Qualifications
•Flexibility in work schedule required to accommodate occasional morning, evening or weekend events or meetings and periodic travel.
