||Public Relations Specialist 3
||The Public Relations Specialist III develops, evaluates and implements integrated communications campaigns and initiatives targeted to a range of stakeholders. The Public Relations Specialist III manages proactive and reactive media relations activities
and produces a wide range of communications for internal and external audiences on time-sensitive topics. Maintains a comprehensive understanding of ANA policy and issues and keeps informed of external news and trends and activities of C/SNAs (constituent
and state nurses associations), and programs of the association in order to promote such efforts and respond effectively.
•Media relations and outreach. Manages proactive and reactive media relations including: write news releases, statements, messages, briefings, fact sheets, blogs, op-eds, and other media materials; pitch trade, local and national media to proactively promote
the programs, policies, positions, activities, products and services of the association, outreach to target, prepare and support internal subject matter experts’ interviews with media representatives. Recommend topics for content development and strategies
to increase the association’s visibility on key issues, and position the association as an expert and top resource for media interviews on nurses, the nursing profession and health care issues.
•Content development and execution. Formulates ideas, writes and coordinates production of brochures, scripts, speeches, website content and other copy and promotional materials to articulate the programs, policies, positions, activities, products and services
of the association. Works with subject matter experts on messages, call to actions and other content and image elements. Writes content for The American Nurse, e-newsletters, and other association channels as needed.
•Communications plans/project management. Participates in team discussions to provide public relations/media strategy advice for campaigns and issues. Develops and implements communications plans. Completes special projects as assigned.
•Acts as a spokesperson for the association with representatives from internal and external publics, especially the media, as appropriate.
•Coordinates production and distribution of digital assets, such as website, video and social media as part of integrated communications campaigns and initiatives.
•Evaluates outcomes and recommends adjustments and new techniques. Identifies and shares new ideas to promote nurses and the association and its initiatives. Assesses the effectiveness of communications materials, strategies, tactics and campaigns and recommends
modifications in order to achieve goals.
•Coalition/Alliance participation. Participates on external/internal coalitions and committees as requested by director. Coordinates ANA staff input on public relations and media activities conducted by external coalitions, as directed.
Baccalaureate in journalism, communications or public relations required;
. Extensive course work and/or post-graduate degree in one of the following areas desirable: journalism, public relations, health services, and/or public health.
Related Work Experience
Minimum 6 to 8 years of related public relations experience, preferably managing and writing for issues-based campaigns and initiatives in a nursing or health care association.
Excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills; ability to conceive, draft, proofread and edit written materials quickly; ability to collaborate across divisions and functions, and engage colleagues at all levels in projects and processes; ability to facilitate
amongst diverse individuals and groups; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, assignments, and deadlines; ability to work independently and exercise good judgment/decision-making.
Requires discretion, strong judgment and ability to work independently and as part of a team; must be flexible in work schedule to accommodate occasional evening or weekend media requests, meetings and periodic travel. Requires articulate, creative self-starter;
detailed-oriented professional with sensitivity to organizational protocols.
