E Ink is seeking a creative chemist/scientist to join a team making innovations in electrophoretic ink materials systems. You will be primarily responsible for synthesis of organic molecules and materials for use in technologies advancing particle stabilization/dispersion, microencapsulation, electrophoretic ink formulations and thin film coatings. This position is with E Ink’s Research Department.
Responsibilities • Independently lead a small team to conduct laboratory experiments in the fields of synthetic organic chemistry in order to advance materials for particle dispersion, microencapsulation, electrophoretic ink formulations and thin film coatings
• Define chemical structure property relationships to achieve fundamental understanding of material performance and capabilities
• Collaborate with analytical chemists to develop optimal methods for quality determination and performance assessments
• Evaluate technical merits of proposed methodologies and technologies
• Provide technical support for scale-up when necessary
• Search and analyze patents and technical literature
• Document results in comprehensive technical reports and communicate to E Ink technical staff
Qualifications • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science
• A minimum of 5 years of related work experience
• Extensive experience in multi-step organic synthesis including reaction design, execution, and development of workup, isolation, and crystallization/chromatography procedures
• Successful history and interest in “hands-on” synthesis
• Demonstrated track record of scientific achievement: publications, patents, key role in successfully completed commercialized projects
• Proficient with software programs such as MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SciFinder, Reaxys, Nerac, Chemdraw
• Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills
• Excellent people and time-management skills
