Description E Ink California, LLC. is seeking an experienced Synthetic Polymer Scientist to join the material R&D team. As part of an innovative research team, this candidate will bring novel specialty polymer material design and synthesis expertise to the team and contribute to materials research and product development in the field of electrophoretic displays (EPD).
Responsibilities • Design specialty polymers, oligomers, monomers according to electrical, physical and chemical requirements. Such polymers with special functionalities will be used in novel coating formulations to widen EPD product capability
• Synthesize, purify polymers and oligomers in lab scale, characterize physical, chemical properties, stabilities, and develop critical to function qualitative analytical methods of the specialty polymers, oligomers, and monomers to correlate to performances in EPD product
• Scale up the synthesis and purification, establish quality control test methods, specifications and transfer to manufacture facility, provide documentation and training
• Investigate and explore new ideas, demonstrate proof of concept, create new intellectual properties
• Participate in cross functional teams in technology and product development.
• Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and promote and contribute to a cohesive team working culture.
Qualifications • Ph.D. in polymer chemistry, polymer science, organic synthesis, materials science or related field
• Hands on experience in polymer, oligomer, monomer synthesis, with in depth understanding of structure-property relationships of polymers
• Strong analytical skills
• Has demonstrable new product development/commercialization and technology transfer experience
• Experience in synthesis of polymer for optimized electrical properties is a plus
• Experience in trouble shooting, show a data driven approach to problem solving and an ability to work under pressure.
• High energy and self-motivated, candidate must be goal-oriented, creative, and be able to handle multiple tasks
