EMCORE Corporation is currently looking for an experienced innovative product development manager with experience in optoelectronic based semiconductor device development for variety of fiberoptic communication markets.

As manager of laser and photodetector device development, you will provide strong, day-to-day leadership and development support for a team of talented design and processing engineers, and guidance to the product development organization. You will interact with senior management, sales teams, product management and marketing teams to develop cutting edge products and support business roadmaps.

• Manage optoelectronic device development team in Alhambra, California, with responsibilities for R&D’s project portfolio. Ensures R&D meets internal and external customer expectations on budget and on time for the technical aspect of the projects while maintaining a client centric environment.
• Understand, technology trends, interact with senior business management and operations to plan and develop products.
• Ensure R&D capabilities align with the strategic goals of the organization and provide competitive advantage. Ensure the proper technical resources and skills are in place and appropriately applied to meet or exceed R&D goals. Provides access to external technical sources and contacts as needed to assure leading state of science and technology at site.
• Understand, analyze, and resolve issues that impact development success including development processes, staffing, technical strategies, and solutions. Personnel responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and resolving problems.
• Be a recognized expert and exercises wide latitude in determining own objectives and best approaches to solving critical problems and fulfilling business needs. Be recognized as a leader and expert by everyone in the product development organization.
• PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field from an accredited college or university. M.Sc. degree in these fields with MBA will be considered.

• 10 years of management experience in optoelectronic semiconductor development environment, specifically related to lasers and detectors based on III-V compounds.
• Expertise in gathering requirements and documenting user needs, and expertise with proficient estimating and planning.
• Interface with key project stakeholders like management, cross functional team leadership, offshore and onsite teams, R&D, customers and project managers is required.
• Proven record in communicating and presenting with all levels within the company with a business-first and technically competent arguments.
