Emcore has an immediate need for a Sr. Director, Engineering to assist us in the area of inertial measurement sensor design based around the use fiber optics gyroscopes. As this is a high growth area for Emcore, the main initial duties would be to build up technical strength in the multi-disciplinary team, to design engineering processes to insure success in the navigation sector, and to provide technical expertise and support in the design and deployment of these components and systems.

•Lead a cross-functional engineering team in a dynamic, fast paced growth environment
•Attract, develop, support, and retain, world-class engineers across all engineering disciplines
•Manage complex and diverse engineering teams, lead program initiatives and drive team performance
•Lead the preparation of technical and cost proposals, and critically reviewing proposals
•Serve as the primary technical interface to the internal design team, senior management and customer base
•Independently identify, research, analyze and provide solutions to complex design problems
•Coordinate R&D & sustaining projects with customer, business unit and operation personnel to ensure program success
•Lead and conduct technical design reviews and readiness reviews to assure the quality of the design artifacts
•BSEE with preferred Master degree or above in Electrical Engineering or Applied Physics, as a minimum.

•15+ years of successful engineering experience including 5+ years in leading engineering organizations
•Extensive knowledge of modern military, aerospace and defense systems and design practices required
•Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills with employees, peers and customers
•Must be a proven leader who has demonstrated employee development skills
•Proven track record of developing and implementing engineering process, tools, and best practices
•Must exhibit excellent verbal and written skills
•Experience in developing detailed project plans using MS Project
•Must have extensive military / defense product design experience with knowledge of all major defense design standards and requirements
•Broad, multi-disciplinary technical background including RF, analog, optical, DSP and digital design desired
•Specific knowledge of MIL-STD-461/462 EMI/EMC requirements, testing and mitigation techniques required
•Familiar with the design and testing products in accordance with MIL-STD-810 environmental requirements
•Knowledge of optical sub-assemblies, navigation products, Fiber-optic gyroscopes (FOG) preferred
•Familiarity with MIL-STD-704 power system requirements and implementation is preferred
