EMCORE Corporation has an immediate need for a Sr. Buyer to assist on a full-time basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing and engineering departments to acquire inventory in a cost effective and timely manner.
• Acquires and maintains technical understanding of products purchased.
• Performs cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities.
• Obtains materials, components, equipment, software and services.
• Develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate.
• Monitors the cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure highest quality at best value. May recommend cost saving proposals including make-versus-buy analysis, alternative sourcing and vendor evaluation criteria.
Additional duties to include but not limited to:
• Coordinates with accounts payable to resolve any credit holds or complex pricing problems to ensure prompt payment and avoid delays to end user; coordinates with receiving department to resolve receipt problems promptly to avoid any delays to end users.
• Negotiates contractual terms regarding quantity, price, delivery, quality, freight routings, and other standard or special contract terms.
• Expedites supplier material, where required, to meet shortfall between current plan and customer order requirements.
• Coordinates the return, rework, or exchange of defective materials.
• Supports cost reduction projects and improvement initiatives to achieve overall business objectives.
• Strong computer skills including experience using ERP/MRP, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Support multiple plant locations.

Requirements |
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
• HS education required
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
• BA or BS degree is preferred.
• C.P.M. and/or APICS certification is desirable
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 5-8 years purchasing experience.
• Must have experience working in an electronics manufacturing environment.
• Must have knowledge and experience in planning, sourcing, purchasing and negotiating numerous commodities: electronic components, PCBAs, electro-mechanical assemblies, cable assemblies, fabricated parts (sheet metal and machined), etc.
• Must have experience in an ISO 9000 / AS 9100 quality system.
• Knowledge with MS Office, particularly Word and Excel, ERP/MRP systems for planning and purchasing (Syteline 8 experience highly desirable).
