Description .PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To provide general staff support for preschool children that encourages age appropriate growth and development in a variety of areas.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

1. Must possess and provide evidence of high school diploma or GED certification.
2. Excellent customer service and problem solving skills, ability to be flexible.
3. Must possess good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
4. Ability to interact with children in a warm, nurturing manner.
5. Ability to exercise initiative, use good discretion and judgment, work as part of a team, and work in a fast-paced environment.
6. Ability to be self-directed in the completion of tasks.
7. Ability to maintain an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family, encouraging their involvement in the program.
8. Experience working with large groups of people, especially preschool students preferred.
9. Working knowledge of child development, age appropriate behaviors, common childhood behavior problems and appropriate interventions.
10. Knowledge of the practices of early childhood teaching.
11. Ability to intervene with children's behaviors in a non-punitive and supportive manner.
12. Ability to communicate effectively with young children and their families.
13. Ability to work as a positive and productive member of a team.
14. Ability to work with and to demonstrate commitment, caring and respect for children and adults regardless of race, gender, age and cultural or ethnic background.
15. Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, colleagues and all agency staff.
16. Commitment to the welfare of the families the program serves, and to the delivery of quality services.
17. Ability and willingness to continue personal and professional growth and skill development.
18. Good physical mobility; ability to find and direct children in case of emergency such as fire or tornado.
19. Ability to exhibit acceptable personal qualities and professional attitudes.
20. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
21. Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner.

Requirements .PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for ensuring that daily activities and interactions reflect the mission and goals of the program.
2. Receive, greet, and direct families, children and guests as needed.
3. Provide coverage in preschool classroom and during lunch.
4. Sit with children for a family style meal to encourage conversation and discussions about the food.
5. Provide foods in serving containers for children to serve themselves.
6. Support children as they set the table and as they clean up after the meal.
7. Assist with escorting and monitoring children during lunch period and outside recess.
8. Clean the refrigerator weekly.
9. Rotate foods (using older foods first).
10. Clean and sanitize tables.
11. Create a clean, safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning, promoting social relationships.
12. Attend all in-service activities, staff meetings and sessions related to your job description.
