Title Early Head Start Teacher

Description To plan and implement a program of educational activities for pregnant women, infants, toddlers and their parents in the home.
1. Required to flex schedule to ensure if Home visits are canceled by either Parent or Staff that they are rescheduled in a timely fashion.
2. Required to ensure that weekly Home visits are conducted and ADA for each assigned child/family is at or above 85%.
3. Ability to develop trusting relationships with families.
4. Plan and implement individual education plans for each child using the selected curriculum as the basic guide and other resources.
5. Assist with problem solving and provide emotional support to parent(s).
6. Be a positive role model and give positive feedback to empower clients in regards to problem solving, self-care, birthing and parenting.
7. Get to know clients support systems and significant family members and encourage their positive involvement.
8. Work with parents to strengthen the family’s knowledge of child development, including assisting parents to understand how children grow and learn, and planning and conducting child education activities with the parents, which meet the child’s intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs.
9. Assist parents in creating a home environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the Early Head Start child.
10. Assist parents and children in the home to achieve curriculum goals.
11. Assist parents in meeting the health, nutrition, and social service needs of the family.
12. Plan group experiences for Head Start home based option children.
13. Encourage home based option parents to attend socializations, Center Parent Education programs and Policy Committee meetings.
14. Assist with transportation needs as required.
15. Assist in evaluating the progress of children and providing reports to Parents, Family Service Worker, Specialist and /or Director.
16. Assist with completing skill checklists and ongoing observation as directed by the teacher.
17. Maintain confidentiality as related to home and school environment.
18. Maintain records as required (i.e. attendance, meal counts, contact log, parent contacts, etc.).
19. Must address children, families and staff with respect and by name.
20. Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with clear professional boundaries that are sensitive and accepting of differences with staff and families.
21. Attend departmental and agency meetings and training as required.
22. Assist parents to strengthen their knowledge of community resources.
23. Coordinate with other staff regarding health screenings for children and other family members. Assist in obtaining and informing parents of needed screenings for child’s file.
24. Assist in completion of and keep ongoing communication with Family Service Worker in regards to Family Service Assessments and Family Partnership Agreements.
25. Assist in finding and directing clients in case of an emergency such as a fire or tornado.
26. Cooperates in any investigation related to personnel, licensing, accreditation or other circumstances.
27. Work positively and cooperatively with his/her supervisor, colleagues, and all Starfish Family Services staff.
28. Attend training and agency/department meetings as required or requested.

Requirements 1. Associate’s or BA/BS degree with a major in Early Childhood Education or Child Development (with a ZA (or Early Childhood) endorsement) required. An Associate’s degree in Education, Nursing or a Human Services related field with 12 credit hours in early childhood/child development also acceptable.
2. Previous professional experience working with pregnant women and infants and toddlers.
Special Licenses/Certifications Required Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
