Description PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Responsible for the cleanliness of building, offices and lavatories. Work involves routine manual operations with frequent follow-up on previously kept areas.
Additional responsibility is to provide general staff support for preschool children that encourages age appropriate growth and development in a variety of areas.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

1. Preferred high school diploma or GED certification. If candidate does not have either, they will be provided with a 6 month grace period to enter a GED or high school diploma certification program. Once entered, they will be granted 1 year to complete the certification from the time of hire.
2. If candidate has a high school diploma or GED certification upon hire, they will be provided with a 6 month-1 year grace period to sign up for a CDA certification program. Upon each candidate’s entry into the certification program, they will be granted 1 year to complete their CDA requirement.
3. Maintain knowledge of Licensing and Performance Standards
4. Excellent customer service and problem solving skills, ability to be flexible.
5. Must possess good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Clean floors, walls, furniture, windows, lights and vacuum carpet.
2. Clean lavatories.
3. Clean and sanitize classroom equipment.
4. Remove trash and keep trash area clean.
5. Maintain inventory of assigned custodial supplies.
6. Maintain documentation of activities, as needed.
7. Ability to interact with children in a warm, nurturing manner.
8. Ability to exercise initiative, use good discretion and judgment, work as part of a team, and work in a fast-paced environment.
9. Ability to be self-directed in the completion of tasks.
10. Work with large groups of people, especially preschool students.
11. Responsible for ensuring that daily activities and interactions reflect the mission and goals of the program.
12. Receive, greet, and direct families, children and guests as needed.
13. Provide coverage in preschool classroom and during lunch.
14. Sit with children for a family style meal to encourage conversation and discussions about the food.
15. Provide foods in serving containers for children to serve themselves.
16. Support children as they set the table and as they clean up after the meal.
17. Assist with escorting and monitoring children during lunch period and outside recess.
18. Clean the refrigerator weekly.
19. Rotate foods (using older foods first).
20. Ability to communicate effectively with young children and their families.
21. Ability to work as a positive and productive member of a team.
22. Ability to work with and to demonstrate commitment, caring and respect for children and adults regardless of race, gender, age and cultural or ethnic background.
23. Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, colleagues and all agency staff.
24. Commitment to the welfare of the families the program serves, and to the delivery of quality services.

26. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
27. Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner.

30. Attend all in-service activities, staff meetings and sessions related to your job description.
