Title Volunteer Coordinator

Description The Volunteer Coordinator engages in activities to identify, recruit and maintain volunteers in support of Focus: HOPE and partnering organization programming and activities. The Coordinator’s primary role is to serve as the program administrator for the all CNCS AmeriCorps program(s) hosted by Focus: HOPE. In addition, the coordinator will support the general operations of the volunteer department with volunteer engagement; works closely with the Manager to establish effective means to maintain and increase volunteer and donor engagement. The Coordinator routinely conducts campus tours and supervises volunteer projects and activities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Recruits, interviews, trains, develops and supervises volunteers.
• Coordinates and conducts tours of Focus: HOPE facilities and is responsible for the safety of the visiting group(s).
• Manage and supervise AmeriCorps programs (specifically VISTA), and university internship programs
• Make presentations to various groups designed to recruit and increase the number of Focus: HOPE volunteers and their retention.
• Plan and manage special events and projects, including prioritizing resources, budgeting and coordinating committees.
• Create sustainable recruitment and retention strategies for the AmeriCorps programs
• Use of new technologies, creative marketing and communications forums to attract new volunteers.
• Participates in community fairs, workshops, conferences, etc.
• Play major role in annual events (i.e. March or HOPE, Heroes for HOPE, Volunteer Recognition; Senior Holiday Delivery).
• Writes correspondence, maintains volunteer databases, and prepares reports.
• Organize mailings – identify lists and implement.
• Performs related duties as assigned by Manager, e.g., drafting of press releases, attendance at hearings, performs liaison with partnering organizations, etc.

• Sense of humor and overall enjoyment is a must
• Outstanding computer skills, including Microsoft Office products, publishing and project software, and familiarity with volunteer management systems (i.e. Galaxy Digital, Raiser’s Edge) preferred
• Ability to plan, organize, document and manage tasks with little supervision
• Valid driver’s license required and ability to drive vans
• Occasionally, requires extended hours (weekends, evening events, etc.)
• Have a positive team player mentality and work as a both a team and independently
• Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds

Education, Training and Experience:
• College or in Liberal Arts, e.g., communications, journalism, political science or similar field.
• At least one (1) year of directly related work experience in nonprofit, volunteer, managing projects, development or public administration.

Additional Comments Perform duties under the supervision of the Manager of the Volunteer and Community Outreach Department.
