Description .General Statement of Duties
Assist in teaching academic and living skills to children ages 3-5 year old in the GSRP/Head Start classroom by supporting the teacher in implementation of the overall operations of the classroom including and not limited to curriculum delivery, assessment and observation and parent and volunteer engagement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Ensure health, welfare, and safety of children enrolled in the class.
2. Assist with the development of weekly lesson plan relating to the curriculum and each developmental age group.
3. Assist teacher in completion of all assessment tools and computer entries on an ongoing basis.
4. Support assigned teacher in managing student behavior throughout daily routine.
5. Assist teacher in managing classroom structure, i.e. schedule, routines and transitions.
6. Assist with monthly meetings for parents and recruit their input into planning for classroom activities.
7. Assist with the daily outdoor play when children are in attendance for 5 or more continuous hours per day.
8. Assist with the development of written goals and objectives for each child and implement the goals and objectives through individualized, small and large group or other related activities. As the goals/objectives are met, new goals and objective are to be written.
9. Assist with the completion of Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) classroom forms which includes time and attendance taken daily, average daily attendance submitted weekly, meal count sheets are completed at point of service and temperature charts completed daily and submit all forms to CFC administration as instructed either monthly or weekly.
10. Assist with meeting the Rules and Regulation of Child Care Licensing, CACFP, Health and Fire Department FH grants and Head Start Performance Standards are implemented within the classroom as mandated.
11. Support Teacher with home visits and parent-teacher conferences.
12. Communicate and meet regularly with assigned teacher regarding status and needs of the classroom.
13. Assist in maintaining a neat, appealing, clean classroom and center (including bathrooms, floors, etc.).
14. Keep informed on developments in Early Childhood Education.
15. Attends and actively participates in Head Start and Core Knowledge trainings to continue professional growth.
16. Assist in documenting and ensure that all children participate in transitional activities and field trips as appropriate.
17. Assist in the set-up of children’s meals and engage in sitting with the children during mealtimes and having mealtime conversations.
18. Assist children with health needs through daily tooth brushing, hand washing and toileting skills.
19. Assist with updating the assigned class allergy and photograph list. Ensure that it is posted in a confidential manner so that all staff are aware of the special needs of the children.
20. Assist with sanitizing all equipment, toys and other surfaces weekly or more if needed.
21. Maintain confidentiality both written and verbal as it relates to children, families and colleagues.
22. Annually, complete 12 hours of training as outlined in the Licensing rules. Annual training hours may include participation in any of the following: (1) In service- trainings (2) Sessions offered by community groups, faith-based organizations, and child care provider associations (3) Workshops and courses offered by local or intermediate school districts or colleges (4) Trainings, workshops, seminars, and conferences on early childhood, child development or child care administration and practices offered by early childhood organizations (5) On-line trainings.



Skills and abilities:
1. Ability to be flexible as well as work with a team.
2. Ability to interpret and implement the Michigan Department of Child Care Licensing rules.
3. Ability to sit on the floor, and lift up to 30 pounds.

Supervision Received
Duties and responsibilities received and supervised by Site Leader.
Requirements Education and Experience Required
1. Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development Associate (CDA) or Elementary Education and/or higher degree preferred.
2. Two years’ experience or higher.
3. Experience working with children in a federally funded program and/or formal child care setting.
4. Some knowledge of the COR Assessment tool and High Scope.
