JOB SUMMARY:

This Workforce Coach position will work directly with youth ages 16-24 in the North 4 program. This coach will assist participants with career exploration, work readiness, educational and career guidance individually and in groups. The North 4 coach will deliver assessment services, employment planning, job placement and job retention services; conduct case note documentation and data entry, and other administrative tasks to ensure compliance with agency/funder guidelines; and maintain effective outcomes-driven relationships with participants and stakeholders. North 4 is a program aimed to reduce crime, violence and unemployment in north Minneapolis males aged 16-24 who have been involved in the criminal justice system and / or who are gang (or clique) involved.  

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct the recruitment, orientation, intake, assessment and individual employment plan development of program participants.
  • Provide career coaching and case management services to a caseload of assigned participants, assisting them to remove barriers that interfere with obtaining employment. Provide ongoing support and supportive services.
  • Assess participants’ skills, interests, and aptitudes by administering relevant testing and inventory assessments.
  • Perform job retention activities, career advancement services and connect participants to training programs and educational opportunities as needed. Monitor accountability of participants ensuring program regulations and contract requirements are met.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes on all participant contacts and document activities. Work effectively and efficiently in multiple internal and external databases. Maintain records that meet agency funder expectations and agency requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison to participants and employer to answer questions; resolve problems/concerns and ensure a productive employment experience for all parties involved.
  • Occasionally transport participants to training, job interviews, or other service-related areas based on needs.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in human services, psychology or related field. Bachelor's degree preferred. An equivalent of combined education and work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant case management, employment, job development and/or vocational counseling work experience.
  • Experience working with underserved populations from various backgrounds, cultures and youth.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current workforce and labor market trends, job development practices, and community organizations throughout the Twin Cities.
  • Ability to effectively manage and coordinate youth development activities and workload.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish authentic rapport and work effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Understanding of barriers created by poverty and racism.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate individual participant meetings, group workshops, orientations, and trainings; skilled in conducting assessments.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships/collaborations with agency participants, staff, partners and community based organizations.
  • Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently.
  • Ability to effectively use a computer, navigate multiple internal and external databases, and keep accurate, detailed and complete records.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across programs and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.

 

Licenses and/or Certifications:

  • Valid Minnesota Driver’s License with reliable transportation, and the ability to meet agency-driving requirements.
  • GCDF certification preferred
