Plymouth Christian Youth Center (PCYC) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) community-based organization with a 63-year history of providing services to youth, families and individuals on a non-sectarian basis. This position is with youth at Plymouth Christian Youth Center (PCYC) in our after school and summer out-of-school time programs (OST). The Licensed Teacher provides socially and academically enriching year-round opportunities for youth in North Minneapolis. The purpose of our OST is to achieve the academic and social/emotional outcomes of PCYC’s highly effective OST programs. To perform this job successfully, you must be able to carry out each core job function satisfactorily.



  • Lead a classroom of scholars (grades K-5) in new and existing academic and youth development activities and curriculum that address the academic and social/emotional strengths and challenges for scholars
  • Assess the social/emotional strengths and areas of challenge for program participants in the classroom. In collaboration with the Academic Coordinator and staff, develop and implement individualized learning plans for each child and monitor their progress
  • Utilize program assessment data and individual learning plans to inform instruction
  • Work in partnership with the Northside Achievement Zone (NAZ), ensuring full implementation of the NAZ ExL Solution Plan
  • Establish and maintain meaningful, appropriate, professional relationships with participants and their families, to be the most effective in assisting the children in attaining academic and life goals. Work with NAZ to involve parents as much as possible and communicate regularly about child progress
  • Effectively utilize volunteers, interns and apprentices to support classroom instruction
  • Attend meetings and events necessary to promote partnerships and the long term success of OST programming at PCYC
  • Effectively work as a team member with other staff on the OST Team



Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with diverse urban youth

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to relate effectively and in a positive manner with adults and children from diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to model behavior consistent with the agency mission
  • Possess the energy and motivation necessary to work under circumstances requiring unique responses to a variety of problem-centered situations, and the resourcefulness to do so with minimal direct supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in oral and written communication on an interpersonal or group level
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computer and other technical resources to effectively accomplish work
  • Ability to travel to various locations for meetings and events
  • Knowledge and skills in classroom management & curriculum development for elementary age youth

Licenses and/or Certifications

  • Valid State of Minnesota Teaching License, grades K-5 preferred
