The Receptionist is a shared position with a part-time morning and afternoon shift. The incumbents interact with National Student Clearinghouse visitors, employees, and outside vendors, and always maintain a professional and courteous demeanor. The successful candidates are responsible for managing the reception area, answering incoming calls, directing calls to appropriate associates, and providing administrative support to the Manager, Office of the President.  The Receptionists must display exceptional customer service to visitors, vendors, and National Student Clearinghouse employees and foster a positive and congenial work environment. Each incumbent must be available to cover for the other when one needs to be out of the office.

This shared part time position offers two shifts, each totaling an average of 23-25 total hours per week.  A morning shift from 7:45am – 12:30 pm or an afternoon shift from, 12:15 pm - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

How You Contribute:

  • Manage the reception area, answering incoming calls, directing calls to appropriate associates.
  • Provide administrative support to the Office of the President.
  • Greets and directs all National Student Clearinghouse visitors.
  • Create temporary security badges for staff in the event they have forgotten their badge.
  • Assist with scheduling conference rooms for staff as needed.
  • Coordinate all catering requests.
  • Process all catering expenses using Concur. 
  • Monitor the Reception email box and respond to requests, as well as monitor the Leadership email inbox and delete all spam and forward important emails to appropriate staff member.
  • Support the Workplace Services Technician when they are unavailable, sign and log packages for UPS, FedEx and USPS, stock kitchens and clean coffee machines.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 0-1 year of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience in an office setting.
  • Availability to work 7:45 am – 12:30 pm or 12:15 pm – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.
  • Demonstrated customer focused approach to performing work duties in person, via email and telephone.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office in an office setting (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Live within a commutable distance of Herndon, VA.


  • Microsoft Office calendaring skills.
  • Experience with WebEx.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Use of a computer terminal and/or laptop computer for 5 or more hours a day.
  • Use of a copy machine, fax machine, and telephone.
  • Frequently required to sit for 5 or more hours per day and must be able to operate effectively in a high traffic, noisy, and open office environment.
  •  Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
