The Proposal and Initiatives Coordinator internally known as “Coordinator, Strategic Initiatives” provides coordination for all corporate Request For Proposals (RFP). The incumbent also provides operational support related to the submission and management of proposal artifacts, stakeholders, and internal/external timelines. The successful candidate demonstrates an understanding of Clearinghouse services, internal policies and operational procedures. The incumbent works closely with department leadership to execute the Clearinghouse’s key strategy drivers including mission and margin, customer satisfaction, and brand awareness.

In addition to proposal coordination responsibilities, the incumbent also coordinates initiatives and assists in building business cases in support of the Clearinghouse’s strategic partner portfolio. On occasion, the incumbent serves as the secondary escalation point for partnership operational issues.  As such, the incumbent frequently collaborates with Education Solutions staff members on a variety of initiatives and projects.  The ideal candidate is personable, thrives in a high-paced environment, and maintains poise under pressure.

How You Contribute:

  • Coordinates enterprise wide request for proposal (RFP) activities including aggregation or proposal artifacts, coordination of stakeholders, and draft execution.
  • Develop RFP commitments log and report projections and impact to Cross Organization Project Improving Report (COPIR) on a regular basis.
  • Documents commitments between the Clearinghouse and strategic partners.
  • Serves as secondary escalation point for partner related challenges and process breakdowns.
  • Assists manager with new strategic partner vetting and onboarding tasks.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Some college with 1-3 years of progressively responsible project management or client management experience, or some equivalent combination of education and experience, including through military service will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Successfully work on a team and across organizational boundaries.
    • Coordinate written proposals and manage business stakeholders to deadlines.
    • Adapt to changing priorities and procedures and remain poised under pressure.
    • Manage difficult or emotional customers effectively.
    • Communicate at operational levels to internal and external customers. 
  • Detailed oriented with the demonstrated ability to identify problems and provide resolution.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills for database and Web applications.
  • Excellent active listening, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Live within a commutable distance of Herndon, VA.


  • Experience with:
    • RFP and/or proposal preparation and coordination.
    • Salesforce and Salesforce Report Builder.
    • Proposal writing with the demonstrated ability to aggregate, develop, and execute on a project plan.
  • Experience working with and strong understanding of the student loan and higher education industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of the features/benefits of Clearinghouse service.
  • Demonstrated ability to use advanced functions in Microsoft Excel for reporting.
  • Experience working with data, and/or reviewing and analyzing large volumes of data.

Physical Demands:

  • Use of a computer terminal and/or laptop computer for 8 or more hours a day.
  • Use of a copy machine, and telephone.
  • Frequently required to sit for 7 or more hours per day in close proximity to others in an open office environment.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally required to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, and reach.
  • Must have oral communication and hearing abilities.
  • Travel via car, train, and airplane when needed (up to 10%).
