Summary of Role:
Royal Neighbors of America is searching for a Senior Counsel with experience in the Life Insurance Industry. This role provides legal advice and services regarding vendor contracts, agent conduct and contracting, legislation, compliance, and other matters as assigned by the General Counsel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Tracks and analyses relevant legislation, rules, and case law.
•Provides legal assistance in the handling of compliance matters to ensure the Society is in compliance with all regulatory requirements, statutes, rules, and regulations.
•Works with management in drafting, reviewing, advising and assisting in negotiations for vendor contracts and provides advice regarding contract disputes and administrative matters and advises and assists in the handling of contract dispute resolution and/or litigation, as assigned.
•Performs other duties and administers other legal matters as assigned by the General Counsel.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from an accredited four-year college or university; Law degree from an accredited law school, and one to three years related experience, preferably with experience working as in- house counsel for a life insurance organization.

Entry, Basic, Mid, and Advanced -level Life Office Management Association (LOMA) courses will be required upon acceptance of position.

Certificates, Licenses, Designations, Registrations:
LOMA Level 1 certificate required. License to practice law in Illinois, the Society's domicile. Additional license to practice law in Arizona desirable. Associate, Insurance Regulatory Compliance (AIRC) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) preferred.

Technical Competencies:
Consultation, research and analysis, drafting contracts

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Industry Competencies:
Life insurance and annuities compliance and regulations.

Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, select strategies, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
